If your Volvo is equipped with Sensus Connect, it is possible to create an Internet connection via your mobile phone. For this to work, your mobile phone needs to have support for tethering.
To set up an Internet connection in your Volvo via Wi-Fi, see the instructions below.
On your phone: make sure that your phone supports tethering and that this function is activated. This function is called "tethering" in iPhone and "personal hotspot" on Android phones.
On the centre console: Press MY CAR and then select OK/MENU.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Settings and then Internet settings.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Connect through and then Wi-Fi.
The search for available Wi-Fi networks is started.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Select your network.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Connect.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Enter the network password.
The car now attempts to connect to the network.
Connect via Wi-Fi.
In the future, the car will automatically connect via Wi-Fi to an available network. The car can remember a maximum of 10 Wi-Fi networks. If one more is added then the oldest network and password are removed from the list of remembered networks.
When tethering an Internet connection via Wi-Fi from an iPhone (all models) to the car, the connection will be interrupted when a phone call, or audio transfer via Bluetooth® takes place. This can lead to apps and other services based on Internet connection being affected.
The connection is resumed when the Bluetooth® call or audio transfer ends.
To avoid interference during the use of apps and services, it is recommended to use tethering via Bluetooth® instead of Wi-Fi when iPhone phones are used.
Note that certain phones switch off tethering after the contact with the car has been disconnected, e.g. if the phone sharing out the Wi-Fi network is taken out of the car. To reconnect to the Internet, activate tethering (portable/personal hotspot) in the phone.
If your car is equipped with a car modem (P-SIM) then the car will automatically reconnect to the Internet if the connection is interrupted, e.g. if the SIM card is removed. For more information on the car modem (P-SIM), see Connect to the Internet via a personal SIM card (Volvo On Call).
To delete saved Wi-Fi networks, see the instructions below.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Wi-Fi.
A list of available networks is shown.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Select the network to be removed.
In the Sensus Connect menu: Select Forget.
The car will no longer connect to the network automatically.
All networks can be deleted simultaneously. To do this, you have to restore the car to factory settings. Note then that all user data and system settings will be cleared from the car. To restore the car to factory settings and delete all networks, see Delete user data from your Volvo.
To cancel a network connection, press OK/MENU and select SettingsInternet settingsConnect throughNone in the Sensus Connect menu. The car will no longer connect to the Internet.
