Cars equipped with Sensus Connect and Volvo On Call can set up Wi-Fi Hotspot in order to share their Internet connection with other devices in the car.
Cars equipped with Volvo On Call have a SIM card holder in the glovebox. This allows you to connect your car to either a twin card (from your mobile phone) or a separate SIM card which you insert in the cardholder in the glovebox.
This Internet connection provides better reception as an aerial is connected to the SIM cardholder and makes sure your Volvo is always connected regardless of who is driving the car. It is also possible to use Wi-Fi Hotspot, which allows you to share your Internet connection with Wi-Fi-compatible devices in the car (e.g. mobile phones, computers and tablets).
Wi-Fi Hotspot is only available when an Internet connection is made using a personal SIM card, and not when connecting via Bluetooth® or Wi-Fi.
Performance may be impaired when sharing Wi-Fi Hotspot with several devices. Most mobile phones and tablets operate at the same frequency as Wi-Fi Hotspot, which can create interference in the wireless environment.
A maximum of eight devices can connect to Wi-Fi Hotspot, but connection of no more than three devices is recommended to ensure best possible performance.
A password has to be set in order to use Wi-Fi Hotspot and create a secure connection to selected devices. This password prevents unauthorised devices connecting to your Wi-Fi network.
If you deselect connection via SIM card (car modem) in the car's Internet settings, Wi-Fi Hotspot will no longer work. You will then lose any established connections to other devices in the car as your car can only use one Internet source at a time.
